Karakia timatanga - beginning karakia
This karakia is the begininng karakia for all Kāhui Ako events.
Whakataka te hau ki te uru
Whakataka te hau ki te tonga
Kia mākinakina ki uta
Kia mātaratara ki tai
E hī ake ana te ataakura
He tio, he huka, he hauhunga
Tīhei, Mauri Ora
Cease the winds from the west
Cease the winds from the south
Let the breeze blow over the land
Let the red tipped dawn come
With a sharpened air,
A touch of frost, a promise of a glorious day
This is another beginning karakia we use at Torbay School. It's a great karakia for teaching direction words
Tuia ki runga
Tuia ki raro
Tuia ki roto
Tuia ki waho
Tuia ki te here-tangata
Ka rongo te pō
Ka rongo te ao
Haumi-ē Hui-ē Tāiki-ē

Karakia whakamutunga - Ending Karakia
This is our other Kāhui Ako karakia, this one is to end a gathering or hui.
Kia tau, ki a tātou katoa
te atawhai o tō tātou Ariki
a Ihu Karaiti
me te aroha o te Atua
me te whiwhinga tahitanga
ki te wairua tapu
āke, ake, ake,
Āmene.
